SOIL VAPOUR EXTRACTION 1
When designing environmental remediation solutions specific to your site, Terratechnik may combine conventional practices with innovative approaches such as Soil Vapour Extraction to ensure an effective and cost efficient remediation.
AN INNOVATIVE AND COST EFFICIENT APPROACH TO ENVIRONMENTAL REMDIATION
Soil Vapour Extraction (SVE), also referred to as soil venting or vacuum extraction is an often used and cost-effective technology for treating contaminated soils where the contamination is in the form of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOC and SVOC). A soil vapour extraction system will recover a large portion of the contaminant mass while ensuring that no vapour emissions are discharged.
The factors that make soil vapour extraction advantageous for the environmental remediation of VOC and SVOC contaminated soil are:
Soil vapour extraction has a simple design and therefore, can be integrated to other technologies required for site cleanup. See below for more details on soil vapour extraction.
MORE ON SOIL VAPOUR EXTRACTION AND HOW IT WORKS
SVE works by inducing a subsurface airflow through the application of a vacuum at various extraction wells. This induced airflow aids in the volatilization of the VOC and SVOC contamination.
SVE uses the natural volatility of these contaminants to transfer contaminant vapours from adsorbed, dissolved, and free phases into the vapour phase. Once in the vapour phase, the vapour is extracted under a vacuum pressure and treated in above ground environmental remediation processes.
SVE systems typically include vacuum extraction wells piped directly into a vacuum pump or blower, which is in turn connected to a treatment vessel. For a SVE system to function, the contamination must occur in subsurface areas permeable to air.
