IN SITU REMEDIATION 1

Terratechnik Environmental will propose a combination of conventional and innovative in situ technologies to greatly enhance environmental remediation performance as we meet your remediation criteria in a cost efficient and effective manner.

Terratechnik specializes in two main types of in situ treatment technologies to reduce the level of hydrocarbon contamination (petroleum based or chlorinated) within soil and groundwater:


  1. Bacterial Bioremediation - the degradation or metabolism of contaminants by micro-organisms that have the capability of utilizing the organic compound as an energy or carbon source. Terratechnik specializes in bioremediation of industrial wastes including bacterial bioremediation of fuel oil from spills and leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) and bioremediation of chlorinated solvents for complete remediation in soils and ground water.

  2. Chemical Oxidation - the application of strong oxidizing agents to react with and degrade the more recalcitrant or persistent contaminants. Most often, oxidants are applied as a first treatment stage as they break contaminants down into compounds which are much more readily biodegradable. A single type of oxidant is not capable of handling all types of hydrocarbon contamination. As a result, Terratechnik specializes in the application of a wide range of oxidants, allowing us to tailor our approach to the specific mixture of contaminants present on a particular site.

These advanced technologies have been developed because traditional ex situ remediation approaches, including soil vapour extraction and pump and treat systems pose mass transfer limitations. Terratechnik generally proposes a combination of innovative technologies in conjunction with conventional practices to greatly enhance performance and meet remediation criteria in the most time efficient manner.
